Autism Awareness Day 2020
April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day 2020, and the social world today is very different from the norm π
But for a lot of our children, and their families, social isolation is common. This is something which gives us lots of challenges, and the fears that come along with it.
Wether it’s refusing to leave the house through anxiety, or being unable to access activities due to sensory needs, our autistic children often experience social isolation on a daily basis.
And so this month we want to share the good, the bad, and the downright hard work parts of autism. Autism Awareness isn’t about how much our children struggle, nor is it about skimming over the hard parts and shouting how wonderful our children are (which of course we know they are!) π
Because the fact is, without parents, carers and the endless list of those people who are in each families life, without strategic planning worthy of MI5 standards π, or without the endless determination and dedication instilled in us π, our children would have a much harder time in this world.
But for all the struggles, our children are our world. So today, we celebrate all the achievements, the difficulties and the hilarious comments, anecdotes and perspectives! Along with their own unique personalities; autism or no autism π
